Owl’s core technology is comprised of a pair of specially configured Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network interface cards (one for “send”, one for “receive”) and a fiber optic cable. Each card is installed on a separate host server in a PCI Express slot and they communicate in a single direction over a fiber optic cable.

Each card is color-coded: Blue for Send, and Red for Receive. The Send card resides in a designated Send Server (Blue) on the source network, and is only populatedwith electronic components for transmitting light. The Receive card resides in a designated Receive Server (Red) on the destination network, and is only populated with electronic components for detecting light. The hardware design of these two cards physically enforces one-way only data transfers and comprise what we call the “DualDiode”.

Owl Communication Card Families:

Owl Communications V7 Card Kits – support 64 bit operating systems, variable bandwidth licenses allow for ranges of transfer rates (High, Midrange, Standard) that span from 26 Mbps to 10,000 Mbps (10 Gbps)

Owl Communication V6 Card Kits - support 64 bit operating systems, available in two transfer rates: 1.25 and 2.5 Gbps

Owl Communication V4 Card Kits - support 32 bit operating systems, available in four transfer rates: 26, 52, 104 and 155 Mbps

Legacy Owl Communication Card Sets:

Legacy Sets include Version 1, 2, & 3 Owl Communication Card Sets.

Typically, the Owl communication card technology is used by sophisticated end users (Intelligence agencies, large defense contractors) to build cybersecurity solutions, most commonly Cross Domain Solutions, for specific projects, programs or missions. Owl Communication V7 Card Kits

The Owl V7 Communication Card Set family is the latest addition to Owl's DualDiode Technology™ hardware product suite. This Send and Receive card pair is deployed with Owl application specific software modules and securely transfers data only one-way between source and destination networks. Operating on the Linux OS, the cards are installed in PCIe expansion slots and have the ability to be configured with up to 32 discrete data transfer channels.

High Capacity:

Supporting up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps), this card set establishes a new benchmark for high capacity, full line rate Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) and other one-way transfer requirements. Geared towards applications like network monitoring where all the traffic passes through the DualDiode, the High Capacity tier is available in 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps configurations with a field upgradeable license that allows the solution to be upgraded if network traffic increases.

Mid-Range:

Supporting up to 2.5 Gbps, this card set allows customers to deploy one-way cross-domain solutions and secure data transfer applications that meet and exceed the largest, and most stringent, application demands. The Mid-range tier is available in 1.25 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps configurations with a field upgradeable license that allows the solution to be modified as transfer needs expand.

Standard:

The Owl Version 7 Communication Card Set family is the latest addition to Owl's DualDiode Technology™ hardware product suite. This Send and Receive card pair is deployed with Owl application specific software modules and securely transfers data only one-way between source and destination networks. Operating on the Linux OS, the cards are installed in PCIe expansion slots and have the ability to be configured with up to 32 discrete data transfer channels. The Standard version supports bandwidth rates of 26, 52, 104, 155, 300, 600 and 1000 Mbps.


 

Owl Communication V6 Card Kits

Owl V6 Cards are Owl’s trusted work horse Communication Card set. Both accredited and certified, the DualDiode Technology™ product suite, securely transfers data between cards on a fiber-optic link at 2.488 Gbps. Deployed in combination with Owl user application-specific software, the Owl V6 series enables the deployment of one-way cross-domain solutions that meet and exceed large enterprise requirements, as well as the most stringent, government imposed application demands. The Owl V6 communication cards are NIAP Common Criteria EAL-4 certified.

Owl V6 cards may be configured to operate in clear-channel and multiple channel modes.  To support very large transfers, such as large databases and high-resolution images, the Owl V6 delivers over 270 Mbps of throughput.  Designed for a variety of applications across the same physical link, the channelized configuration can support up to 8 independent channels supporting user defined bandwidth per channel.  Fixed rates include either 1.25 Gbps or 2.48 Gbps are installed in PCIe expansion slots on servers running the Linux OS.

The Owl V4 Communication Card Sets are used as the controlled interface in transfer solutions, when user applications require the physical security of fiber-optic transport, and moderate-to-high user content throughput levels. The Owl V4 card set is the DualDiode hardware component embedded in the Owl 4.0 CDS on the UCDSMO Baseline Inventory 3.5.0.

Owl V4 cards, matched with Owl application-specific software, support the secure transfer of all types and formats of user traffic. Owl V4 communication cards are NIAP Common Criteria EAL-4 certified.

Fixed rate bandwidths support 26 Mbps, 52 Mbps, 104 Mbps and 155 Mbps. This product is installed in PCIe server expansion slots on Windows, Solaris or Linux operating systems.
